What is the average annual electricity consumption of a household in France? -------- Environmental impact -------- Does the manufacture of solar panels require large amounts of energy? -------- Are solar panels recyclable? -------- What contribution do solar arrays make to helping preserve the environment? -------- What is meant by ‘ecological footprint’? -------- What is renewable energy? -------- What are the environmental advantages of installing a solar array? --------

Producing solar-generated electricity helps us to reduce our annual CO2 emissions. By way of example, the average solar array on a residential property allows for a reduction of up to 35 tonnes of CO2 emissions over a 20 year period, an amount equivalent to that emitted by a car being driven four times around the world. Installing a standard array means the production of 10 grams of material that will remain highly radioactive over a very long period of time can be avoided. (Source: INES).
